Raycon Everyday Over-Ear Headphones (White)
Raycon Everyday Over-Ear Headphones (White)
$99.99
Raycon’s Everyday Over-Ear Headphones are the unimpressive, under-engineered lovechild of hype and aggressive advertising. With middling sound quality, a weighty unremarkable design, and an MSRP that puts it in competition with other more competent on-ear headphones, Raycon’s only selling point comes via paid influencer and celebrity endorsements.
-
Distinctions - The largest competence in the Raycon Everyday Headphones is the actual sound quality. Clarity on the high-end is very solid, while mids and bass are at least competent.
Criticisms - There are a remarkable number of engineering oversights in the Raycon Everyday Headphones, the most egregious of which is the capability to achieve a deafening level of volume on-ear. Couple that with zero effective on-board equalization, and the top end of volume is an absolute mess of unleveled noise.
-
Distinctions - Meaty weight of the Raycon Everyday Headphones allows for a firm and comfortable head-fit when not moving.
Criticisms - As may be evident from our quality score, Raycon’s Everyday Headphones are significantly lacking in quality department. Every single element that moves is plastic or requires plastic attachments, resulting in a total build that has tremendous unwanted flex when worn. This, in conjunction with the greater weight, creates inertia when walking or running that causes the headphones to slip off if not fit uncomfortably tight on head. These are not good gym headphones, they are not great for those on-the-go, these are firmly sitting down headphones. The frustrating part is that the design is only so bulky because they did not want to use stronger, more expensive materials, relying on increased thickness of plastic to make up for issues with rigidity or breaking. Aluminum or alloy peers provide greater rigidity, smaller pieces and reduced weight, but all at the expense of the profit margin. One would hope this cost-cutting was redirected into the sound quality, but again, the end result is only just okay.
-
Distinctions - Raycon offers the Everyday On-Ear Headphones in a few colors, all of which are more sedate than certain peers while still being distinctly different within the line.
Criticisms - The white, particularly with age, would best be described as off-white yellow. Greasy plastic and leather are less than appealing on every color choice, with the large proportions being less reminiscent of recent technology than the blocky aesthetics typical of the turn of the millennium. Raycon branding is also in extreme contrast to the rest of the design, being a clear plug rather than a conscious extension of existing design language or motifs. When worn, the large size of these headphones is abundantly apparent, rivaling other chunky headphones like the AirPods Max for physical presence.
-
Distinctions - Largely plastic design and simple boxboard packaging will make recycling easier than some peers.
Criticisms - The mere existence of the Raycon Everyday Headphones is a sustainability failure, as they are a product not designed to supersede or outlive peers in anyway, rather just an attempt at securing valuable market share through guerrilla marketing towards unaware consumers. A largely brittle and overwhelmingly plastic design has no durability to offset its proportionally larger cost of emissions, while actual internals are so middle-of-the-road that even simply improving the exterior would not fully solve the problem.
-
Criticisms - Nothing about the Raycon Everyday Headphones exceeds or improves upon any benchmarks of the industry in any way. Sound is average to below, quality is awful, and price, as Raycons are perpetually on sale, is the only real difference. However, with wireless peers like JBL, Sony, Anker, Beats and Apple, there’s always a better alternative, no matter how niche your desire may be.
